Capias Yields Meth Charge 8-3-15

On Monday, August 3rd, 2015, officers from the Abingdon Police Department were dispatched to Wells Fargo Bank at 332 Cummings Street in reference to a wanted suspect inside the bank. Officers confirmed that the suspect, Jayson E. Elam, 36, of 18499 Ambler Way, Abingdon, Virginia, was wanted on a capias for failure to appear on a previous felonious assault charge. Upon being confronted by officers, Elam ran from the bank, but was apprehended by additional officers waiting in the parking lot. A search subsequent to his arrest uncovered a small plastic bag containing a white crystal substance, consistent with methamphetamine, on Elam’s person.

The capais was served and additional charges were obtained for Possession of methamphetamine, in violation of § 18.2-250 of the Code of Virginia; Obstructing Justice, in violation of § 18.2-460 of the code of Virginia; and Resisting Arrest, in violation of § 18.2-479.1 of the code of Virginia. Elam is being held in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail without bond.

Prowler Charged With Possession of Burglary Tools

On Saturday, August 1st, 2015, at approximately 5:00AM, Officer J.N. Carty of the Abingdon Police Department was patrolling the 300 block of Trigg Street when he observed a male subject crouched down behind the Trigg Street Church of God. When the officer stopped to investigate further, the subject tried to flee the scene on a bicycle. The subject was apprehended after losing control of the bicycle and crashing in the church parking lot. The man was identified as Mitch D. Warner, 33, of 202 Trigg Street Apartment 8, Abingdon, Virginia.


Warner, who had one outstanding warrant for Disorderly Conduct in Public Places, in violation of § 18.2-415 of the Code of Virginia, and one summons for Punishment for Using Abusive Language to Another, in violation of the § 18.2-416 of the Code of Virginia, was taken into custody and transported to the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail. The outstanding warrants were served on Warner and an additional warrant for Possession of Burglary Tools, in violation of § 18.2-94 of the Code of Virginia, was issued by the magistrate. Warner is being held in jail without bond.
