Abingdon Police Department- Stabbing Incident on 8-11-2020

For Immediate Release

 On Tuesday, August 11, 2020, at approximately 5:30 PM, Chief Holbrook was leaving the Abingdon Police Department (425 West Main Street), when he was flagged down in the parking lot. The person advised Chief that a woman was being assaulted across the street at 406 West Main Street. While crossing the street, Chief Holbrook observed a female being pushed by someone behind a wall. It appeared there were two male subjects and a female subject fighting in the parking lot. One of the subjects, Matthew A. Mitchell, 31, of Abingdon, Virginia, was found to have been stabbed by Shane R. Testerman, 22, of Bristol, TN.

The Washington County, VA Life Saving Crew arrived on scene to transport Mitchell to Bristol Regional Medical Center. After being released from the hospital, Mitchell was arrested and charged with Assault and Battery, in violation of § 18.2-57 of the Code of Virginia; and Disorderly Conduct, in violation of § 18.2-415 of the Code of Virginia. He is being held on a $2000.00 secured bond.

Testerman was arrested and charged with Malicious Wounding, in violation of § 18.2-51 of the Code of Virginia; and Possession of Paraphernalia, in violation of § 54.1-3466 of the Code of Virginia. He is being held without bond.
