Release
On Monday, August 3rd, 2015, officers from the Abingdon
Police Department were dispatched to Wells Fargo Bank at 332 Cummings Street in
reference to a wanted suspect inside the bank. Officers confirmed that the suspect,
Jayson E. Elam, 36, of 18499 Ambler Way, Abingdon, Virginia, was wanted on a
capias for failure to appear on a previous felonious assault charge. Upon being
confronted by officers, Elam ran from the bank, but was apprehended by
additional officers waiting in the parking lot. A
search subsequent to his arrest uncovered a small plastic bag containing a
white crystal substance, consistent with methamphetamine, on Elam’s person.
The capais was served and
additional charges were obtained for Possession
of methamphetamine, in violation of § 18.2-250 of the Code of Virginia; Obstructing
Justice, in violation of § 18.2-460 of the code of Virginia; and Resisting
Arrest, in violation of § 18.2-479.1 of the code of Virginia. Elam is being
held in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail without bond.
