Abingdon
Police Department
For Immediate Release
On
Thursday, March 28, 2019, at approximately 5:45 p.m. Abingdon Police
Investigator J.M. Austin, along with members of the United States Marshals
Service, and the Sullivan County, TN Sheriff’s Office, responded to 2124 Ramah
Road, Kingsport, Tennessee to search for Angelina Roberts, the teenager who ran
away from Abingdon High School on March 20th. Roberts left
school after borrowing a phone from another student and calling someone to pick
her up. After placing the call, Roberts deleted the number that she
contacted. Upon leaving school, Roberts was entered in the missing
children’s database as a runaway. While on the run, Roberts made numerous
online contacts to friends and family who helped conceal her whereabouts in
several locations in southwest Virginia and northeast Tennessee.
Upon
arrival at the Ramah Road address, officers found Roberts concealed in the
ceiling of the laundry room in the home. Roberts was taken in to custody
by the Sullivan County, TN Sheriff’s Office and transported to the Johnson City,
TN Juvenile Detention Center where she was held.
The
Abingdon Police Department appreciates the working relationships and contributions
of the United States Marshals Service, Sullivan County, TN Sheriff’s Office,
Kingsport, TN Police Department, and the Scott County, VA Sheriff’s Office in
this case. Without the cooperation of these agencies, Roberts would not
have been found so quickly. We also greatly appreciate the legitimate
information provided by concerned community members that aided in locating
Roberts.
