For Immediate Release
On Saturday, July 28, 2018, at approximately 2:22 PM,
Abingdon Police Department officers were dispatched to the railroad crossing at
Preston Street in reference to a vehicle being struck by an eastbound train.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the silver KIA sedan was traveling
north on Preston Street when it was struck by the front of the Norfolk Southern
train. The one occupant of the vehicle was transported by Virginia State Police
Med-flight to Bristol Regional Medical Center.
The Abingdon Police Department, Abingdon Fire
Department, and the Washington County Life Saving Crew all responded to the
incident. At this time, the incident is still under investigation.
